Local knowledge meets digital technology for conservation

Ten local rangers from the Igoana, Epanga, and Kiuwai tribal groups on Kolombangara Island have strengthened their digital mapping and conservation monitoring skills through a three-day refresher CoMapeo training delivered by the Islands Knowledge Institute (IKI) in collaboration with KIBCA.

By combining local knowledge with digital technology, the training equips rangers to collect field data, monitor biodiversity, and support community-led conservation.

Watch how digital mapping is helping equip local rangers to protect Kolombangara Island's natural heritage.
