Strengthening Indigenous Institutions

IKI supports organizations including MMGB, KIBCA, NTAN, and MiTIGT with sub-grants, mentorship, and operational guidance.

Improved conservation practices and community engagement.
Advanced ranger training, protected area applications, and governance systems.
Built foundations for legal recognition, renewable energy, and better land management.

Community-Led Territorial Management

Place-based work in Guadalcanal, Malaita, and Temotu helps communities and youth protect rainforests, cultural sites, and livelihoods.

Supported water systems, a Kava Hub, homestays, eco-tourism trails, and solar boats.
Engaged youth in patrols, maintenance, documentation, and festival planning.
Strengthened local ownership of resource management.

Indigenous Education & Knowledge Systems

IKI integrates Indigenous knowledge into education, strengthens digital access, and supports community skills.

Partnered with SINU and CIF on a postgraduate diploma in Island Knowledge Futures.
Supported Starlink internet and laptops across eight Malaita schools.
Contributed to more than 125 certified graduates and learners.

Policy & Constitutional Dialogue

IKI connects grassroots Indigenous voices with national and regional policymaking.

Facilitated the Indigenous Constitutionalism Convening in May 2025.
Supported the Melanesia Ocean Reserve initiative.
Hosted elders' tok stori to preserve intergenerational political memory.

Cultural Revitalization & Storytelling

Media, music, and digital technology celebrate Indigenous culture and expand public storytelling.

Documented the Tepuke canoe voyage and traditional craftsmanship.
Supported language preservation and creative collaboration.
Built youth storytelling platforms through Tea Room digital hubs.
