Building the Future: IKI Partners with SINU and Arizona State University
The biggest resource in the Solomon Islands isn't our timber, our gold, or our tuna. It is our young minds.
We are thrilled to announce a major step forward in our mission to empower the next generation of Solomon Islander scholars. The Islands Knowledge Institute has formally partnered with the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Arizona State University (ASU) to launch the Institute of Islands Futures.
What is the Institute of Islands Futures? This new initiative, to be housed at the SINU Kukum Campus, represents a fusion of local insight and global reach. It will function as a hub for transdisciplinary research, focusing on the critical issues facing our region:
- Climate Change Adaptation
- Digital Sovereignty
- Food & Water Security
A New Pathway for Students Through this partnership, we are developing curriculum that allows Solomon Islands students to engage with world-class research methodologies without having to leave their cultural context behind. We are bringing the resources of ASU—one of the world’s most innovative universities—directly to Honiara.
This is more than a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). It is a promise to our youth that they do not need to look overseas to find world-changing ideas. The future of island resilience is being written right here, by us.
