Knowledge Built by Islands,
For the World

Empowering island peoples to lead, create, and innovate through our own unique perspectives.

Who We Are

Founded in 2008 and incorporated as a Charitable Trust, the Islands Knowledge Institute (IKI) was born from a simple but powerful truth: Knowledge is social.

We believe that the most impactful solutions for island communities are created by those who live within them. Based in the Solomon Islands with an active presence in Hawaii, Vanuatu, and Aotearoa/New Zealand, we are growing a global community of thinkers, creators, and workers dedicated to building knowledge rooted in island ontologies.

Our Vision

To be a globally recognized center for Islands Knowledge—empowering our people to lead with integrity, preserve our unique ways of life, and solve global challenges through island perspectives.

Our Mission

To strengthen Indigenous governance, advance place-based stewardship, and foster education systems that honor and integrate Indigenous knowledge at every level.

Education & Research

We host lectures, seminars, and research initiatives designed to provide the public with the tools and information necessary for national progress.

02

Leadership Development

We are dedicated to fostering a new generation of Solomon Islanders who lead their communities with vision, integrity, and courage.

03

Economic Resilience

We encourage the growth of practical skills and local industries that drive sustainable economic development.

04

Strategic Collaboration

We believe in the power of "we." IKI actively partners with like-minded organizations to amplify our impact and reach shared goals.

Our Reach

While our heart is in the Solomon Islands, our mindset is regional. Our network spans across the Pacific, creating a bridge of shared knowledge.
